Europe is warming more than twice as fast as the global average.

Build the intelligence layer the transition depends on.
TraceLab is an impact lab and venture development programme for teams turning environmental observation into decision-grade evidence, deployable systems and credible financing pathways.
We begin where the signal is already strongest: climate intelligence, Earth observation, geospatial analytics, climate risk, environmental monitoring, MRV, carbon markets and the data infrastructure connecting them.
Climate action is increasingly a problem of translation. We can observe more of the planet than ever before, but observation only becomes useful when it can be translated into trusted evidence, operational decisions and capital that can move.
Why now
The need for better evidence is rising at the same time as the cost of getting decisions wrong.
Europe is already experiencing this pressure. It is the fastest warming continent, major climate risks are affecting infrastructure, food, water, ecosystems and finance, and large gaps remain between identified risks, implementation and investment.
Major climate risks have been identified for Europe, with many already at critical levels.
European Environment AgencyEstimated annual adaptation finance needed in developing countries by 2035, compared with $26B in international public flows in 2023.
UNEP, 2025Estimated European climate-tech Series B funding shortfall from 2020 to 2024 relative to US financing dynamics.
World Fund, 2026The opportunity is not simply to generate more climate data or more startups. It is to improve how evidence moves from observation into decisions, deployment and finance.
The signal from the field
Our earliest teams were already building a connected stack.
The previous HACK4EARTH teams clustered around climate intelligence, Earth observation, geospatial analytics, climate risk, environmental monitoring, MRV, digital MRV, carbon markets and climate data infrastructure.
These are not isolated verticals. Together they describe an emerging operating layer for environmental action: systems that help us see what is changing, understand what it means, verify what happened and decide where resources should move next.

This direction is already visible in Europe. Copernicus is turning open Earth-system data into climate intelligence, ESA is expanding commercial Earth-observation infrastructure, and the EU Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming framework is moving certification and traceability into an operational market environment.
What TraceLab actually does
We help consequential interventions cross the distance between technical possibility and real-world adoption.
Many programmes begin once a startup is already legible to investors. TraceLab begins earlier, when a technically credible intervention still needs to be translated across the worlds that determine whether it can survive.
An engineer needs to prove that the system works. A domain expert needs to know whether the signal is meaningful. A customer needs to understand the operational value. A regulator needs traceability and assurance. A financier needs to know which risks remain and what capital is appropriate.
TraceLab brings those questions into one development environment.
Frame the system
Start with the problem, the affected system and the decision that needs to improve.
Test the intervention
Validate the technical, environmental and operational claims against a credible baseline.
Translate the evidence
Make the value understandable to users, institutions, regulators, buyers and capital providers.
Design the path to scale
Determine the next pilot, procurement route, partnership or financing instrument that fits the intervention.
Not another accelerator
The objective is not to force every important idea into the same venture template.
Some interventions should become venture-backed companies. Others may be open infrastructure, public-private projects, research commercialisation, specialist services or systems financed through grants, procurement, debt or blended capital.
TraceLab asks a different question: what does this intervention need to become in order to create durable value, and who should own the upside if it works?
We want the people doing the transition to have pathways to ownership.

Up to eight teams. Three months. One question: does the intervention deserve to scale?
The first cohort grows out of HACK4EARTH 2026. Selected teams move beyond the challenge into a focused validation period designed to turn technical promise into a credible deployment and financing case.
The outcome is not a prettier pitch deck. It is clearer evidence, stronger technical and commercial assumptions, a path to real-world testing, and a better understanding of what form of organisation and capital should come next.
Starting in Europe. Built for a global problem.
Environmental systems do not stop at borders.
Climate risk, food systems, water, carbon, biodiversity and infrastructure are interconnected across regions. TraceLab starts from a European base because Europe offers a dense combination of open environmental data, research capacity, public innovation infrastructure and emerging climate regulation.
The ambition is global: build a network through which practitioners, researchers, operators, open-source communities, system changers and green financiers can identify credible interventions, test them rigorously and help the strongest move into use.
The ecosystem
Transition needs people who can see the same problem from different sides.
People who understand the problem because they work inside it.
Builders who can turn evidence into usable systems.
Experts who can challenge assumptions and strengthen the evidence.
Organisations able to test solutions under real conditions.
Capital providers who understand that different risks need different instruments.
Public and private actors that can create pathways to procurement, standards and scale.
Build the next layer with us
Bring a consequential problem, a serious team, a pilot environment, specialist knowledge or capital.
We are building the first TraceLab around people and institutions willing to move beyond climate ambition into tested interventions. We are especially interested in organisations that can help teams access data, validate claims, run pilots, navigate regulation, procure solutions or reach the right form of finance.
Start a conversationThe long view
TraceLab helps identify, validate and finance interventions that can mitigate systemic problems, particularly where environmental impact, technology and infrastructure intersect.
The first evidence points us toward the intelligence layer of climate transition. The larger ambition is to build a trusted pathway through which consequential ideas can move from observation to ownership, deployment and measurable change.
